Piezoresistive Gasket Sensor, first place prize in EPIC Design Competiton

In the EPIC design competition at BU my two teammates and I designed a gasket sensor to satisfy the needs of the competition sponsor - Garlock. This design, instead of integrating sensors into a product, took the product and showed how its bulk material could act as a piezoresistive sensor. This was accomplished by demonstrating that carbon composites, commonly used in production, can be made to function as strain sensors with the simple addition of electrodes and specific carbon allotropes. Hopefully, by employing this design, catastrophic leaks and blowouts can be avoided through predictive sensing.
