Bio-compatible Graphene Pressure Sensor for Glaucoma Treatment

In this project I attempt to develop an implantable MEMS pressure sensor capable of detecting tiny pressure changes (fractions of a mbar) within the eye. To better treat glaucoma it is imperative to know when intra-ocular pressure (IOP) changes even a little because it can begin a cascade of cell damage. With this design it is possible to measure much smaller pressure changes through the piezoresistive properties of graphene membranes on a surface less than than a square millimeter in size. In addition, the materials and methods employed in fabrication are well established and can be scaled cost effectively. Difficulties include: finding a safe and effective method for implantation, and powering the device reliably.
